Luxury Vinyl Technical Information

Luxury vinyl technical information

Among the categories of resilient flooring is luxury vinyl flooring , a durable plastic product. As this segment of the resilient market is growing, this section is devoted to Luxury vinyl technical information.

There are several styles of luxury vinyl flooring. These different styles are composed of varying numbers of layers and features.

LVP – Luxury Vinyl Plank and Luxury Vinyl Tile. LVP and LVT vinyl flooring is made from polyvinyl chloride resins (PVC), melted and combined with elements, such as stabilizers and fungicides, to make it durable and resilient.

Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Materials

WPC – Wood Plastic Core (OR sometimes called Waterproof Core) This product has vinyl on top, its center core is a wood/plastic-based core.  WPC does not contain actual wood. Instead, it is made up of wood flour fused with thermoplastic and calcium carbonates.

SPC – Solid Plastic Core. Mohawk SolidTech flooring calls the core of its SolidTech vinyl plank “SPC” for solid plastic core. Shaw’s Floorte, which they also say is waterproof, is stone-plastic composite. Keep in mind though that even a waterproof floor is subject to water damage. Water such as a plumbing leak that finds its way under the plank will result in a flooring problem.
