A Few Tips for Simple Home Decorating

home decorating

Home decorating is an expression of personal choice. Home decorating is who we are or who we wish to be. Decorations abound in everything in our lives, from our appearances to our desks to the decorations of our homes. Even as children we were taught to decorate boring school text books. We were given a room in our house – a space where we kept our toys, clothes and decorations of our lives.

A Few Tips for Simple Home Decorating

As we grew older, those decorations changed and for many of us so did our decorating ideas, wants, needs and desires. As children, pictures of fairies and pirate ships turned to posters of rock stars. Heaps of teddy bears turned into heaps of clothes and equipment. The spaces that we own grow – from rooms. We shift to houses, offices and even buildings that we call our own. We want to stamp the different flavors of who we are and this is home decorating.

Decorating can mean anything – from new floor covering to wallpaper to seasonal decorations to different styles which are carried through our entire homes. Tuscan houses, for example, tend to have crumbling stone walls, marble flooring and wrought iron accessories. But these different aspects of interior decoration mean more than simply choosing a theme. Walls, floors and accessories all contribute to the feeling that one gets when you walk into these homes. The themes in houses can make everything seem calm and peaceful, bright and vibrant, wise and historic with antiques – the list is endless.

Wherever we live, we have the beauty of mountains, city lights or sunsets. Yet, when it comes to home decorating, people sometimes fail to see the need for beauty and tranquility in their everyday surroundings. Making your spaces a place that reflects you can be a daunting task. For years, professional interior decorators have helped people make their homes attractive. But who can capture the essence of you and your family better than you yourself? Figuring out how to make your home a reflection of your life requires patience, planning and a good dose of compromise.

Mood, Style, Color is Home Decorating!

  1. Decorating is mood: Decide on the mood you want to evoke in the room before you start decorating.
  2. Decorating is style: Consider the decor and style of your home (make sure it doesn’t conflict with what you already have).
  3. Home decorating is color: Make sure that the colors you choose are compatible with the fixtures in the room. Color blends your personality.

The need for home decorating – new flooring, paint on the walls, window treatments or buying new furniture can all be justified by our desire to differentiate ourselves and have our loves ones – the people that enter our space – get a feeling of who we really are. Home decorating truly is love!
